Tired of the corruption and lack of fiscal transparency of
the Good Ole Boys, Wright County Residents will see at least 4 new faces on the
5 person County Commission Board.
Regular readers of this writer’s column will recall a series
of articles from 2009 regarding the Wright County Board refusing to provide financial
information which is supposed to be public record. After seeing his property taxes triple,
enough was enough.
Then Board Chair Pat Sawatske and County Attorney Tom Kelly
refused to provide all of the information. This writer was forced to guess the
format of the data. (Make sure credit is
given to behind the scenes Maestro, outgoing Commissioner Dick Mattson) And
once this writer determined some of the data was in Lotus and some was Excel, he
was again forced to demand the password. Only then did this writer find the data
in an unusable format. The Columns were
locked so no arithmetic functions could be used to analyze the little data I
did get. Wright County Government even ignored a Freedom of Information Act and
said “sue us”. And this writer still
does not have all the data he requested nor in any semblance of a usable
format. As a reminder, here are those

All this writer ever wanted to do was post Wright County Government Financial information on the internet in a format every Wright County Resident could easily see and understand on the internet. In this way every resident of Wright County could act as an auditor. (But never forget that we did learn that after 1 year on the job, Wright County Government Employees get 35 paid days off each year)
Obviously, Wright County Government has something to hide.
Wright County Residents got the message and the August 14,
2012 primary result provides virtual certainly of at least 4 new faces on the 5
person Board.
Four of the five Wright County commissioner seats were
vigorous contests, and Wright County residents will welcome 4 new faces to the
total of 5 County Commissioners.
Redistricting saw 2 incumbents battling to stay on the Board.
They were Incumbent Rose Thelan and Incumbent “No Fiscal Transparency” Pat
Sawatzke. They will face off in the November election.
In District 5, current commissioner and behind the scenes
Maestro Dick Mattson did not get enough votes to be in the top two positions on
the November ballot.
Only the 2 top vote-getters in each district will be on the
November ballot.
